On 1 November 2010 the Office of the Privacy Commissioner was integrated into the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). An interim website for the OAIC is available at www.oaic.gov.au. This site (privacy.gov.au), which only contains information related to the OAIC's privacy function, will be maintained until a combined site is established.

Does the Privacy Act cover health information in the Private Sector?

Yes. For more information on how the Privacy Act covers health information in the private sector please go to Privacy and Health Information and to Frequently Asked Questions about Health Information and Privacy.

Please note that if the health information is contained in your employee record and is only used by your employer for employment purposes then it is exempted from the Privacy Act. For more information go to Information Sheet 12 - Coverage of and Exemptions from the Private Sector Provisions.
